Doctors and Team

Charles L. Smith, D.D.S., was born in Columbus, Ohio, and is a graduate of the University of Charleston. Dr. Smith attended dental school at West Virginia University, and completed a General Practice Residency at Charleston Area Medical Center. He acquired the practice of Dr. Donzie Lilly in 1985. Chuck is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of Operative Dentistry, the International College of Dentists, Kanawha Valley Dental Study Club, Charleston Dental Study Club, and the Kanawha Valley Implant Study Club. He is married and has two sons, one is a freshman in college and one is in high school.

Richard Duff Smith, D.D.S., is a second-generation dentist born in Charleston, West Virginia. Duff is a graduate of Virginia Tech, attended the University of Maryland, and completed dental school and a masteršs degree in Anatomy at West Virginia University. He began practice in Charleston by joining his late father, Dr. Ralph S. Smith, in 1977. Dr. Smith is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of Operative Dentistry, Charleston Dental Study Club, Kanawha Valley Dental Study Club, and the Kanawha Valley Implant Study Club. He is married and has three sons, the eldest an associate dentist in our practice.

J. Christopher Smith, D.D.S, son of Dr. Richard D. Smith, joined our practice in May 2001, following his graduation from West Virginia School of Dentistry. Chris was born in Morgantown, WV, while his father was a student in dental school. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1997 with a degree in Food Science and Technology. Chris is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of Operative Dentistry, Kanawha Valley Dental Society, Kanawha Valley Implant Study Club, and the Charleston Dental Study Club, and Kanawha Valley Dental Study Club. He is married and has a son.

Our front office team includes our office manager of 16 years, Patty DeHart and our newest team members, Rachel Mooney and Amber Binion.

Our clinical team consists of three full time dental hygienists, Melinda Avis, RDH and Lesley Valentine, RDH and Kim Lanham, RDH. Other clinical staff includes, Reba McCallister CDA, COMSA and Carol Thomas CDA, COMSA and dental assistants, Nicole Castle, Summer Feldhaus, Sarah Mazzella, and Gwinny Morrison.

Our entire staff is certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) for your safety. We pride ourselves in employing a staff that is well trained, friendly, and dedicated. Your safety and comfort are very important to us.
